gatherings

In Visayan mythology, Kan-Laon was the creator deity known as “The Ruler of Time”. Kan-Laon created 7 moons to illuminate the cosmic sky.

Bakunawa was a moon-eating water dragon that was deeply infatuated with the 7 moons. One by one, the bakunawa swallowed the moons with conviction. By the 7th moon, the bakunawa projected a shadow on the moon (known as a lunar eclipse) as Kan-Laon intervened and cursed the dragon for its greed.

Down below, people gathered and banged their pots as loudly as they can to scare off the bakunawa. The community united together to keep the only illumination in the cosmic sky.
