gatherings
at the heart of our gatherings is the celebration of collective joy
In Visayan mythology, Kan-Laon is the creator diety known as “The One Who Is the Ruler of Time”. Kan-Laon created 7 moons to illuminate the cosmic sky.
Bakunawa is a moon-eating water dragon deeply infatuated with the 7 moons. One by one, the bakunawa swallows the moons with conviction. By the 7th moon, as the bakunawa projected a shadow on the moon ( known as an eclipse), Kan-Laon intervened and cursed the dragon. A divine intervention.
Down below, people gather and banged their pots as loudly as they can to scare off the bakunawa. The community gathered together to keep the last moon in the cosmic sky.
